Project Brief:
Mercedes-Benz has a significant presence in Egypt automotive industry through local assembly operations. In 1996, the Egyptian German Automotive Company (EGA) was established as a joint venture between Egyptian entrepreneurs and Daimler AG (now Mercedes-Benz Group AG). Located in the 6th of October City near Cairo, EGA assembled various Mercedes-Benz passenger car models.
In 2015, due to political and economic challenges, the assembly of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars in Egypt was halted. However, in 2019, Mercedes-Benz announced plans to resume local assembly operations. The company selected the Egyptian German Automotive Company as its local assembly partner after a thorough assessment.
As of late 2024, Mercedes-Benz announced plans to increase its production in Egypt by 30% in the coming year, indicating a strong commitment to the Egyptian market.
